DIY Cat Exercise Wheel

[DIY Cat Wheel]

1. Wheel Part

1) First cut the wood to the same size as the picture. The thickness is 15mm.

2) Fix the wood with a bond. Make the shape of circle as possible.

3) Fix it with screws once more.

4) Fix the cat carpet with screws. If your cat is familiar with wood, you can skip the carpet.

2. Support Part

1) First cut the wood to the same size as the picture. The thickness is 15mm.

2) Fix the wood with screws as shown below. The position should be set according to the urethane wheels you want to use.

3) Fix the urethane wheels to support the weight of the catwheel.

4) Fix the side wheels. This wheel prevents the catwheel part and the support part from rubbing when the catwheel is moved in the horizontal direction. If there is no wheel, the part marked in red is rubbed.

3. Things to Improve

1) I want to change the thickness of the wood to 12mm. 15mm is too heavy.
2) I want to reduce the width of the catwheel. For my cats, 300mm is enough.
3) The part where catwheel and urethane wheel meet is not perfect circle. Movement is not smooth when the urethane wheels pass through the wood gaps. If you wrap the catwheel like a rubber band once, it seems to move much more smoothly.

    1. I made a jig for my hand router fixed to a centre point and the router on the other end and just move the router in a circle. Have to first set the router bit not too deep and then rout a second time through. Works perfect!

  10. It is a very good work. Thanks. I have a few questions.
1- What are the dimensions of 40,55mm for? Is it for cats?
2- What is the size of the wheels you use?
3- At what height did you fix the wheels?
4- How about 600mm size do you think?
